PitchBook: VC Fundraising Q1
VC fundraising slowed down in Q1, with exits in the startup industry declining and capital commitments for new funds becoming harder to secure.
US VC firms raised $11.7 billion across 99 funds in Q1, which would mark the lowest total capital raised since 2017 and a 73% drop compared to 2022 if the pace continues.
Niche and differentiated funds may be more attractive to LPs from a reduced pool, according to Sanjeev Krishnan, a senior managing director at S2G Ventures.
First-time fund managers are facing a tough time raising funds, with closures expected to decrease even further compared to 2022.
Only two billion-dollar vehicles closed in Q1: B Capital Group raised approximately $2.1 billion and Bain Capital Ventures closed a $1.4 billion fund.
