💰 Venture Capital News
PitchBook: Recent IPOs won't pull 2023 out of VC exit value trough
Both Klaviyo and Instacart went public this quarter, contributing significantly to exit values.
Despite an initial positive start, their performance on Wall Street has been lackluster, with both now trading below their IPO values.
Historically, IPOs have been a crucial source of liquidity for venture capitalists (VCs), comprising over 70% of all liquidity during the strongest years of the last decade (2019-2021). However, recent poor post-IPO performances have diminished hopes for an immediate rebound in the VC-backed IPO market.
The year-end outlook for Q4 is pessimistic, with no major listings expected.
Some VCs are advising late-stage companies to postpone IPOs until interest rates stabilize. There's a belief that the current "IPO window" is open, but caution is being exercised, and companies may wait for more favorable market conditions.
