GM, Welcome to the latest edition of The Girls Table newsletter - What a crazy week! By now, you’ve likely heard of the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, and the uncertainty it’s caused in the start-up, crypto, and tech world.

The collapse of Silicon Valley Bank created the second-largest bank failure in US history. As the 16th largest bank in America, SVB invested heavily in long-term bonds when rates were near zero, a decision that ultimately led to their downfall. When interest rates rose, the bank suffered a $1.8 billion after-tax loss and urgently needed to raise more capital to address depositor concerns. The market reacted sharply, and SVB lost over $160 billion in value in just 24 hours. As depositors rushed to withdraw their funds, a bank run was well underway. Luckily, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) took over SVB on Friday to get depositors access to their money by Monday.

More news to come but as always, thank you for reading and taking a seat at The Girls Table.
