PitchBook: US VC Female Founders Dashboard

  • In 2022, companies founded solely by women received only 2.1% of the total capital invested in venture-backed startups in the US.

  • US VC funding for female-founded or co-founded companies has been increasing in recent years, reaching $32.4 billion through the third quarter of 2022, surpassing any previous year's capital raised. However, female investors account for just 16.1% of VC decision-makers, and 95.5% of VC firms have a majority male population of decision-makers.

  • During the first half of 2022, US startups with one or more female founders raised $20.8 billion of venture funding, representing over 93% of the deal value raised in the first half of 2021, which was a record year for VC funding for female founders.

  • Female founders secured only 2% of venture capital in the US in 2021, marking a decline from the previous year. However, the overall dollar value of funding to female founders increased due to record-high funding levels in 2021.
